Customs

There are many customs and courtesies that are helpful to know when traveling to Nigeria. In Nigeria, greetings are very important. If you choose not to greet a person it is considered rude and disrespectful. In Nigeria, most of the time people use greetings like, hello, good morning, good afternoon, and good evening. The languages that are spoken in Nigeria are English, (which is the main language) Hausa, Yuroba, Ibo, and Efik. Some gestures people in Nigeria make are pointing with their index finger and beckoning by moving their fingers downwards. Two gestures that should not be done are putting your hand out and spreading your fingers and pointing at people's shoes.
